Sister of St. Joseph Albertus Schauseil, 89, died Feb. 11, 2005, at the congregation’s motherhouse in Pittsford.
A native of Holy Rosary Parish in Rochester, she entered the order in 1935, studied at Nazareth Normal School and earned her bachelor’s degree from Nazareth College.
Sister Schauseil taught in diocesan schools for more than 20 years, including St. Patrick, Dansville; St. Alphonsus, Auburn; St. Monica and St. Ambrose in Rochester; and St. Mary, Elmira. She was then a cottage mother at St. Joseph’s Villa for three years.
For the next 36 years, she was assigned various ministries at the motherhouse, including sacristan, director of maintenance, assistant local coordinator and co-administrator. While serving in these capacities, she shared with others her skill as an excellent seamstress.
Sister Schauseil is survived by her sisters, Helen Hall and Mary Shallenberger; brothers, Albert, Richard and Thomas; several nieces and nephews; and her sisters in the congregation.
Her funeral liturgy was celebrated in the motherhouse chapel on Feb. 15, 2005, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph, 150 French Road, Rochester, NY 14618.
