Sister Julia Podsiadlo, SSJ, 93

Sister of St. Joseph Julia Podsiadlo, formerly Sister Anicetus, died Sept. 5, 2006, at the congregation motherhouse at the age of 93.

Following her entrance into the congregation from her home parish of St. Stanislaus in Rochester, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Nazareth College and a master’s degree in mathematics from Notre Dame University.

Sister Podsiadlo’s first 12 years of teaching were at Immaculate Conception and St. Monica schools in Rochester. She then taught high school mathematics for 25 years, serving at DeSales High School in Geneva and at Nazareth Academy and St. Agnes High School, both in Rochester.

Prior to taking up residence at the motherhouse in 2004, she worked in the guidance office at St. Agnes and in the library at Nazareth Academy. Throughout her ministry, she was known for her homemade chocolates and her love of sports, especially Notre Dame football.

Sister Podsiadlo is survived by her nieces, nephews and her sisters in the congregation.

Her funeral liturgy was celebrated in the motherhouse chapel on Sept. 18, 2006, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
