Sister Karen Considine, SSJ, 93

Sister of St. Joseph Karen Considine died Aug. 14, 2016. She was 93 years old.

She entered the congregation in 1941 from her home parish of Holy Rosary, Rochester. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Nazareth College in 1947 and completed a master’s of nursing education from St. Louis University in 1951.

She began as a nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Elmira. During her time there, she also served as an instructor and a guidance director for nursing students. In 1959, she began teaching nursing at Nazareth College, and in 1962, she became director of nursing Services at St. Ann’s Home. A decade later, she became coordinator of ambulatory services at St. Joseph’s Hospital and executive director of health resources at McGhan Hall.

In 1986, Sister Considine became pastoral assistant at St. Thomas More Parish in Brighton, also serving briefly as temporary administrator and parish visitor until her 1995 retirement in 1995.

Sister Considine is survived by her nieces and nephews, and her sisters in the congregation.

Her funeral liturgy was celebrated in the motherhouse chapel in Pittsford on Aug. 18, 2016, with burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
