Sister of St. Joseph Kathleen Kohl (formerly Sister Walter Marie) died June 4, 2014, at the age of 93.
She entered the congregation in 1938 from her home parish, Ss. Peter and Paul in Rochester. She received a B.E in 1947, and earned a B.A. in social studies and English in 1953, both from Nazareth College.
Sister Kohl taught at Immaculate Conception, Ithaca; St. Joseph, Wayland; St. Aloysius, Auburn; St. Lucy, St. Francis Xavier and Holy Rosary, Rochester; St. Stephen, Geneva; and St. Mary, Dansville. She was principal and superior at St. Francis Xavier from 1965-72.
In 1973 she began working as a counselor for the aging at Catholic Family Center in Rochester. She attended several conferences to improve her skills and remained in this ministry until her retirement in 2000.
She is survived by her nephew, John Kohl and family; niece, Kathleen Vishniac and family; a cousin, Ula Kohn; and by her sisters in the congregation.
Her funeral liturgy was celebrated in the motherhouse chapel in Pittsford on June 13, 2014, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
