Sister Mary Alphonsus Kruckow, 91, a member of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas for 62 years, died on March 28, 2004, at the motherhouse in Brighton.
A native of Elmira, she earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Nazareth College. She taught at Our Lady of Mercy High School in Rochester from 1934 to 1952. She then served as assistant formation director, treasurer and, from 1961-67, as a councilor on the congregation’s leadership team.
Following one year on the purchasing staff of St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell, she became director of purchasing, a position she held for 19 years. She then volunteered as home visitor for St. Ignatius Parish in Canisteo and, in retirement, served in the spiritual apostolate.
Sister Kruckow is survived by her sister, Sister Mary Kruckow, RSM; nieces and nephews; and the Sisters of Mercy. Father William Amann celebrated her funeral liturgy in the motherhouse chapel on March 30, followed by interment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
