Sister M. Philippa McCarthy, 92 of the School Sisters of Notre Dame died Nov. 22, 2004, at Lourdes Health Center in Wilton, Conn.
A native of Massachusetts, she received her master’s degree from Boston College. Her teaching career spanned more than 50 years and included teaching at Ss. Peter and Paul School in Rochester. Since 1984 she has resided at the motherhouse in Wilton, working in community services.
She is survived by her cousin, Eleanor Reed of Wakefield, Mass.; close friends Father James Doyle and Esther Conners, both of Rochester; nieces, nephews and her sisters in the congregation.
Father Doyle celebrated her Mass of Christian Burial Nov. 27, 2004, at the motherhouse chapel. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bethel, Conn.
