Sister of St. Joseph Madeline Cox died suddenly on Nov. 20, 2010. She was 76 years old.
Sister Cox entered the congregation from her home parish of St. Charles Borromeo in Greece in 1952. She earned a bachelor of science degree in education in 1961 and a bachelor of arts degree in 1969, both from Nazareth College in Pittsford.
In 1954, she began her more than 30-year teaching career. She taught at Corpus Christi, Holy Rosary, St. Francis Xavier and Holy Redeemer, Rochester; St. Patrick, Seneca Falls; and Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Brockport. In 1986, she began working as a parish visitor at St. Agnes, Avon, and then at St. Michael in Rochester. From 1993-2006, she served as a companion and driver for sisters, both at St Joseph’s Convent Infirmary and in her local community of St. Ambrose, Rochester. She also worked part time in the congregation’s archives.
Sister Cox is survived by her sister-in-law, Connie Cox; her nieces, Judy (Art) Finocchario and Mary (Paul) Ernst; her nephew, James (Terry) Cox; many grandnieces and grandnephews; and her sisters in the congregation.
Her funeral liturgy was celebrated in the motherhouse chapel in Pittsford on Nov. 29, 2010, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
