Sister Magdalena Kellner, SSJ, 78

Sister of St. Joseph Magdalena Kellner died Nov. 6, 2016. She was 78 years old.

She entered the congregation in 1957 from her home parish of St. Columba, Caledonia. She received a bachelor’s degree in math from Nazareth College in 1962 and a master’s degree in Spanish from Middlebury College in Vermont in 1972.

Sister Kellner taught at Our Lady of Lourdes School in Brighton and DeSales High School in Geneva. In 1975 she was assigned to Nazareth Academy as a Spanish teacher and later served as vice principal, assistant principal for curriculum, and assistant principal for academic and student affairs. She remained at Nazareth Academy teaching Spanish until 2004.

She then served as a Spanish tutor and interpreter and provided secretarial services at St. Joseph’s Neighborhood Center in Rochester. In 2011, she taught Spanish and provided counseling at Nativity Preparatory Academy.

She is survived by her siblings, Sister of St. Joseph Maria Kellner, Father Winfried Kellner, Stephan Kellner, Maria Bors, Agnes (Norman) Gebauer, Norbert (Jane) Kellner and Bendikt Kellner; and by her sisters in the congregation.

Her funeral liturgy was celebrated in the motherhouse chapel in Pittsford on Nov. 21, 2016, with burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
