Sister Margaret Irene Klem, SSJ, 92

Sister of St Joseph Margaret Irene Klem (formerly Sister Louise Cecilia), died on Dec. 12, 2010. She was 92 years old.

Sister Klem entered the congregation from her home parish of Holy Trinity, Webster, in 1940. She completed Nazareth Normal School in 1947 and in 1953 earned a bachelor of science degree in education from Nazareth College.

She began teaching in 1945 at Corpus Christi, Rochester, and also taught at Holy Apostles and Immaculate Conception, Rochester; St. Theodore, Gates; St. Rose, Lima; and St. Francis de Sales, Geneva. In 1959 she was assigned to St. Ann’s Home where she served first as a hall supervisor, and then from 1962-73 as a nurse aide. She then moved to St. Joseph’s Convent Infirmary where she cared for the older sisters’ personal needs, and also served as a visitor until her retirement in 2000.

She is survived by her sisters, Dorothy Roth and Mary Jane Van Laeken; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her sisters in the congregation. Her funeral liturgy was celebrated at the motherhouse chapel on Dec. 16, 2010, with burial the following morning in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
