Sister of Mercy Margaret Mary Walsh, 89, died April 20, 2005.
A native of Rochester who entered the congregation in 1936, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Medaille College and a master’s from Niagara University.
Following teaching assignments at St. John the Evangelist in Rochester and St. Salome in Irondequoit, she entered administration and served for more than a decade as principal at St. Salome, Holy Cross in Charlotte and St. John the Evangelist in Rochester and as founding principal of St. Mary in Bath. She returned to teaching in 1967 at St. Helen School in Gates, followed by teaching at Cardinal Mooney High School in Greece from 1971-89.
Sister Walsh served at Mercy Center with the Aging for the first 13 years of her retirement before retiring fully to the spiritual apostolate.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Anne (Douglas) Kramer, John (Josephine) Gebhardt, Mary (Robert Berkman) Walsh and Charles (Eleanor) Gebhardt; and the Sisters of Mercy.
Her funeral liturgy was celebrated by Father William Donnelly at the motherhouse on April 22, 2005, with interment April 23 at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
