Sister of St. Joseph Marie Albert Alderman died Oct. 5, 2016. She was 91 years old.
She entered the congregation in 1944 from her home parish of Blessed Sacrament, Rochester. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education at Nazareth College in 1951.
Sister Alderman taught at St. Francis Xavier, Sacred Heart and Our Lady of Good Counsel, Rochester; Ss. Peter and Paul, Elmira; St. Rose, Lima; St. Elizabeth, Selma, Ala.; and Immaculate Conception, Ithaca.
After a brief time as a core team member at the Sisters of St. Joseph Prayer Center in Rochester, Sister Alderman went to King Ferry as a rural minister. She was assigned as a pastoral assistant at St. Mary, Canandaigua, in 1973. In 1988, she served as a parish visitor at Holy Name in St. Petersburg, Fla. She then returned to Alabama in 1992 as an outreach worker at the Pine Apple Rural Health Center and in Vredenburgh.
She briefly returned to St. Mary as a volunteer before retiring to the motherhouse in 2003, where she continued in prayer ministry and reaching out to others whenever possible.
Sister Alderman is survived by her sister-in-law, nephews, many good friends and her sisters in the congregation.
Her funeral liturgy was celebrated in the motherhouse chapel on Oct. 8, 2016, with burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
