School Sister of Notre Dame Marie Therese Alaimo died July 24, 2009, after a brief hospitalization. She was 80.
Sister Alaimo was born in Rochester, was baptized at St. Anthony Church and later attended Holy Family Grade School. She entered the congregation in 1946 after graduating from Holy Angels Academy in Fort Lee, N.J.
She earned undergraduate degrees in organ and piano from the Catholic University of America and in music education from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland. She also earned a master’s degree in educational administration from the University of Rochester.
She was director of music at Madonna School in Fort Lee, N.J., for 20 years. From 1969-74 she was principal of Rochester’s Holy Redeemer School. She taught at Rochester’s St. Philip Neri School for nine years, and later worked in pastoral services at Irondequoit’s St. Cecilia Parish until retiring in 2002.
She is survived by her sister, Lillian Alaimo of Webster; several nieces and nephews; and her sisters in the congregation.
Her Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated July 28, 2009, at St. Cecilia Church, followed by internment in Holy Sepulcher Cemetery.
