Sister Marion Greer, SSJ, 80

Sister of St. Joseph, Marion Greer (formerly Sister Francine) died on July 21, 2014, at the age of 80.

Sister Marion entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1952 from her home parish of St. Aloysius, Auburn. She completed a B.S. in Education in 1962 and earned a B.A. in History in 1971, both at Nazareth College of Rochester.

In 1954, Sister Marion began teaching at St. Jerome, East Rochester, and taught at St. Paul, Oswego; St. Rose, Lima; St. Stephen, Geneva; and Blessed Trinity, Auburn. She was also assigned as teacher and Principal at St. James, Waverly and at Sacred Heart, Auburn. In 1984, she went to Sacred Heart Cathedral School in Rochester as a Jr High language teacher and later as Administrative Assistant.

In 1995, Sister Marion was assigned to the Nazareth Schools: The Academy, to work in the Alumnae Office. She later took a position in the Finance Office at the Motherhouse which she held until her retirement in 2011. She then returned part time to Nazareth Elementary to serve as a classroom assistant and tutor.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Marilyn Broadbent, cousins, and by her Sisters in the Community of Joseph.

Her funeral liturgy was celebrated in the motherhouse chapel on Tuesday, July 24, 2014, and she was buried the following day in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Auburn.
