Sister of Mercy Mary Brigid Quinn died Oct. 12, 2017. She was 91 years old.
Sister Quinn entered the congregation in 1945 and professed her final vows at St. Charles Borromeo, Greece, in 1951. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Nazareth College and a master’s degree in theology from the University of Dayton, Ohio.
She taught at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and St. John the Evangelist, Rochester; St. Louis, Pittsford; and St. Ann, Hornell. She also served as principal at St. Charles Borromeo, Greece.
Sister Quinn left teaching in the 1970s to become a pastoral associate, serving at St. Mary, Waterloo; St. Helen, Gates; St. Pius Tenth, Chili; St. Joseph, Cayuga; Our Lady of the Lakes in the Finger Lakes; and St. Patrick, Owego, where she engaged in rural ministry and became a volunteer at Tioga County Rural Ministry. She also was coordinator for retired sisters at Mercy Center in Brighton.
She is survived by her sister, Marguerite Mahoney; nieces, nephews; and her sisters in the congregation.
Her funeral liturgy was celebrated at the Mercy Center chapel Oct. 17, 2017, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
