Sister Mary Colgan, SSJ, 91

Sister of St. Joseph Mary Colgan (Sister Anna Marie), 91, died May 9, 2007, at the congregation’s motherhouse.

She entered the congregation in 1940 from her home parish of Our Lady of the Lake in King Ferry and earned an education degree from Nazareth College.

She taught elementary grades at Holy Rosary, Rochester; St. Patrick, Corning; St. Patrick, Mount Morris; and Ss. Peter & Paul and St. Casimir, both in Elmira. She also taught for four years at St. Elizabeth School in Selma, Ala.

In 1956, Sister Colgan was assigned to St. Joseph’s Villa in Rochester where she taught for two years and was a cottage mother for seven years. In 1982 she served as a classroom assistant at St. Michael School, Penn Yan, following which she was a personal-care assistant at the convent infirmary until her retirement in 1999.

She is survived by her nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and her sisters in the congregation. Her funeral liturgy was celebrated in the motherhouse chapel on May 11, 2007, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
