Sister of St. Joseph Mary Denis Hurley died Oct. 3, 2015. She was 98 years old.
She entered the congregation in 1935 from her home parish of Immaculate Conception, Rochester. She earned a bachelor’s of education and a bachelor’s of arts in English from Nazareth College in 1966.
Sister Hurley taught at Corpus Christi and St. Joseph’s Villa, Rochester; Ss. Peter and Paul, Elmira; and St. Patrick, Seneca Falls; St. Michael, Penn Yan; Immaculate Conception, Ithaca; St. Jerome, East Rochester; and DeSales High School, Geneva. She also worked at St. Elizabeth in Selma, Ala., and from 1969-75, she coordinated the Resource Center at Nazareth Academy in Rochester.
In 1975, Sister Hurley became a receptionist for The Heritage at St. Ann’s Home. After 13 years in the position, she moved to the motherhouse, where she worked in the finance office and served as a driver for St. Joseph’s Convent Infirmary until her retirement in 2007.
Sister Hurley is survived by her sister, Margaret Dentinger; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; and her sisters in the congregation.
Her funeral liturgy was celebrated in the motherhouse chapel on Oct. 9, 2015, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
