Sister Mary Lillian Byrne of the School Sisters of Notre Dame died at the congregation’s Baltimore motherhouse on Jan. 11, 2005. She was 87.
Sister Byrne, a native of Baltimore, professed her first vows in 1941. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Nazareth College in Pittsford and her master’s at Loyola College in Baltimore.
Locally, she taught at Holy Redeemer School in Rochester from 1941 to 1956. She also taught middle-school and junior-high grades in Baltimore.
In addition to her sisters in the congregation, Sister Byrne is survived by her nieces, nephews and cousins. Her funeral liturgy was celebrated on Jan. 14, 2005, at Villa Assumption Chapel in Baltimore with burial at Notch Cliff Cemetery in Glen Arm, Md.
