A primary teacher in diocesan schools for 50 years, Sister Mary Martha
Reeder, 96, died at the Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse on Oct. 2,
Sister Reeder entered the congregation from her home parish of St.
Stanislaus in Rochester in 1926 and received her teacher’s certificate
from Nazareth Normal School in 1947. She taught at Sacred Heart,
Immaculate Conception, St. Augustine and Holy Apostles schools in
Rochester; St. John the Evangelist in Spencerport; and St. John the
Evangelist in Greece.
Following her retirement from teaching in 1978, she was a classroom
assistant for six years and assisted at St. Stanislaus Convent for 13
Sister Reeder is survived by her sisters, Helen Lester and Genevieve
Zienkiewicz; nieces and nephews; and her sisters in the congregation.
Her funeral liturgy was celebrated in the motherhouse chapel Oct. 8
with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
