School Sister of Notre Dame Mary McCormack died on Oct. 14, 2012, at Lourdes Health Care Center in Wilton, Conn. She was 92.
A native of Lynn, Mass., Sister McCormack entered the congregation after graduating from high school In 1937. She was given the religious name Mary Lambertine and made her first vows in July 1940. Six years later she professed her final vows.
Sister McCormack earned a bachelor’s degree in education in 1957 from what is today Notre Dame of Maryland University in Baltimore. Her first teaching assignment was at Holy Family School in Rochester (1940-42). She also taught in various other schools in New York, Maryland and Massachusetts.
She left teaching in 1974 to begin ministering to the elderly sisters at Villa Notre Dame, the former SSND motherhouse in Wilton, Conn. In 1984, she became a financial secretary at St. Joseph of Yorkville in New York City. She stayed seven years before returning to Wilton, where she worked in the medical records office of Lourdes Health Care Center for seven years. In 1998, after moving to Villa Notre Dame in Wilton, she joined the finance office staff of Notre Dame Child Development Center. In 2002, when the child-care center closed, she retired to prayer at Villa Notre Dame.
She is survived by her only sibling, Sister Marie Elena, SSND, also of Villa Notre Dame in Wilton.
Her Mass of Christian Burial was held on Oct. 17, 2012, in the chapel at Villa Notre Dame. Burial followed at St. Mary Cemetery in Bethel, Conn.
