Sister Mary Paul Statt of the Daughters of Charity died on Sept. 13, 2005, at the province’s retirement residence, Villa St. Michael, in Emmitsburg, Md. She was 92 and served in the order for 59 years.
A native of Sacred Heart Parish in Rochester, she was a graduate of Nazareth Academy and St. Mary Hospital’s School of Nursing. She subsequently earned her master’s degree in nursing administration from Catholic University of America.
In her health-ministry career, Sister Statt was director of nursing at several Daughters of Charity hospitals in Massachusetts, Washington, D.C., Florida and Virginia; director of a school of nursing; vocation director; retreat house superior; and served on the staff at Villa St. Michael for seven years until her retirement in 1999.
She is survived by her niece, Cathy (John) Killackey of Penfield; her nephew, John (Lois) Michaels of Rochester; two grandnieces and one great-grandniece. Her funeral liturgy was celebrated in the Basilica of the National Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Emmitsburg on Sept. 17, 2005.
