Sister Mary Weaver, formerly Sister Felicitas, died Sept. 6, 2004, at the age of 70 at the Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse.

She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1952 from her home parish of St. James and received her bachelor's degree in education from Nazareth College. After teaching for 10 years at Our Lady of Lourdes and Blessed Sacrament schools, both in Rochester, she taught until 1970 in the congregation's mission in Selma, Ala.

Sister Weaver then worked with the rural poor and elderly in Alabama as a community organizer, pastoral assistant and assistant director for the Community Action Program. During this time she continued her studies and received a bachelor's degree in social work.

Returning to Rochester in 1992, she served as a driver for the motherhouse and then supervised the care and maintenance of the order's cars.

She is survived by her aunt, Helen Wenner; cousins Lois Johnson, Mary Jo Terranova, James and Virginia Wenner; and her sisters in the congregation. Her funeral liturgy was celebrated at the motherhouse chapel on Sept. 9 with burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph, 150 French Road, Rochester, NY 14618.
