Sister of Mercy Mary Beth Teddy (formerly Sister Mary Nicholas) died Nov. 26, 2018. She was 86 years old.
Sister Teddy entered the congregation from Rochester’s St. Monica Church on Sept. 5, 1954. She earned a bachelor’s of science degree from Nazareth College and earned a registered nurse degree from St. James Mercy Hospital, Hornell. Later, she earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Alfred University’s St. John Fisher Extension in Rochester.
Sister Teddy taught at St. John the Evangelist and St. Charles Borromeo, Greece; St. Joseph, Penfield; and St. Mary, Bath. She also taught business at Cardinal Mooney High School, Greece, and Our Lady of Mercy High School, Brighton.
After being an educator for several years, she entered the health-care field, working as a nurse and nurse teacher at St. James Mercy Hospital. Also, she was a nurse at Highland Park Hospital/St. John Fisher College and the Sisters of Mercy Infirmary; a training instructor with American Red Cross; and a nursing instructor at the SUNY Brockport. Other assignments included case manager at We Care Home Health Services and director of training and home health aide supervisor at Tender Loving Care Agency in Rochester.
Sister Teddy is survived by nieces and nephews; dear friends, Peg and Bruce Cornell; and her sisters in the congregation.
Her funeral liturgy was celebrated at the Mercy Center chapel on Dec. 3, 2018, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
