Sister of Mercy Mary Conleth Kennedy died Nov. 3, 2018. She was 91 years old.
Sister Kennedy entered the congregation from Blessed Sacrament Parish, Rochester, on Sept. 2, 1945, and professed her final vows on Aug. 24, 1951.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Nazareth College.
She taught at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and St. Andrew in Rochester and St. Ann in Hornell. She was principal at St. Cecilia in Irondequoit.
Sister Kennedy also worked in administrative offices for the Sisters of Mercy and at St. James Hospital, Hornell.
She served the Steuben County Rural Ministry in Canisteo as coadministrator and director, and she volunteered in rural parishes from 1982-2009.
Sister Kennedy was named Canisteo Citizen of the Year in 1986 and a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.
The Diocese of Rochester presented her with the Vita Award, which recognizes those who have made outstanding contributions in support of the dignity of life.
She is survived by nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Marie Kennedy; friend, Lois Stephany; and her sisters in the congregation.
Her funeral liturgy was celebrated at the Mercy Center chapel on Nov. 8, 2018, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
