Sister of Mercy Mary Leona Didas died Oct. 27, 2018. She was 85 years old.
Sister Didas entered the congregation on April 12, 1953, and professed her final vows on Aug. 16, 1958.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in music education from Nazareth College and a master’s degree in music education from Ithaca College.
She taught music at Holy Family, Auburn; St. John the Evangelist, Greece; St. Rita, Webster; St. Andrew, Rochester; and St. Ann, Hornell. She also taught at Elmira’s Notre Dame High School and Holy Family School, where she was coordinator and director of vocal and instrumental music.
Sister Didas is survived by her two nieces, a nephew, dear friend Sister Mary Raymond Joseph and her sisters in the congregation.
Her funeral liturgy was celebrated at the Mercy Center chapel in Brighton on Oct. 30, 2018, with burial at St. Mary Cemetery in Fremont, N.Y.
