Sister of St. Joseph Jonathan Schneider died Sept. 3, 2018. She was 90 years old.
Sister Schneider entered the congregation in 1946 from her home parish of St. Ambrose, Rochester. She earned bachelor’s degrees in education and history from Nazareth College.
She taught at St. Anthony of Padua and St. Augustine, Rochester; St. Aloysius, Auburn; St. Anne, Palmyra; St. John the Evangelist, Greece; and Holy Trinity, Webster. She also was principal at both St. Patrick, Mount Morris, and Ss. Peter and Paul, Elmira, and taught eighth grade at each school.
In 1972, she became pastoral assistant at St. Jerome, East Rochester, and then at St. Thomas More, Brighton. In 1986, she became a parish visitor at Church of the Assumption, Fairport, where she remained until her retirement in 1998.
Sister Schneider is survived by her sister-in-law; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; friends; and her sisters in the congregation.
Her funeral liturgy was celebrated at the motherhouse chapel on Sept. 10, 2018, with burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
