Sister of St. Joseph Lily Ann McBride (formerly Sister Matthew Marie) died Aug. 4, 2018. She was 93 years old.
Sister McBride entered the congregation from her home parish of St. Monica, Rochester, in 1943. She attended Holy Cross School of Culinary Arts and went to the University of Notre Dame for a professional workshop for sister housekeepers and food service directors.
In 1945, Sister McBride was assigned as an assistant in the cafeteria at Nazareth College in Pittsford and then went to St. Joseph’s Villa (Villa of Hope) in Rochester as a cottage supervisor. From 1948-63, she served as a supervisor in the kitchen at the motherhouse in Pittsford, teaching hundreds of novices how to prepare meals. Following that, she lived and worked as the housekeeper at the Blessed Sacrament convent for seven years. In 1970, she returned to the motherhouse and served as a driver for the sisters in the infirmary. Sister McBride opened Cornerstone Crafts in the motherhouse and managed the shop for 33 years until her retirement in 2011.
Sister McBride is survived by her sisters-in-law, Carol and Ann; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and her sisters in the congregation.
Her funeral liturgy was celebrated at the motherhouse chapel Aug. 9 2018, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
