Sister of St. Joseph Mary Fatima Matrachisia, 94

Sister of St. Joseph Mary Fatima Matrachisia died Jan. 16, 2020. She was 94 years old.

Sister Matrachisia entered the congregation in 1947 from her home parish of Corpus Christi in Rochester. She earned a teacher’s certificate in 1955 and a bachelor’s degree in history in 1973 from Nazareth College.

Sister Matrachisia taught at St. Joseph, Wayland; Holy Apostles and St. Joseph’s Villa, Rochester; St. Stephen, Geneva; St. Anthony and Ss. Peter and Paul, Elmira; Holy Trinity, Webster; St. Michael, Penn Yan; and Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Brockport.

In 1973, Sister Matrachisia moved to the motherhouse and served as a driver for the sisters. She then took a position as a receptionist at St. Mary’s Hospital and later at the motherhouse. In 1978, she went to Wayland as the school secretary and moved into teaching third grade.

After an internship at St. Mary’s Hospital in 1986, Sister Matrachisia began serving as a home health aide in private homes and for family members. She continued in this ministry until her retirement in 2005.

Sister Matrachisia is survived by her nieces, nephews, friends and her sisters in the congregation. Her funeral liturgy was celebrated at the motherhouse chapel on Jan. 22, 2020, with burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
