Sister of St. Joseph Michaela Tennity died May 15, 2018. She was 89 years old.
Sister Tennity entered the congregation in 1947 from her home parish of St. Margaret Mary, Irondequoit. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education in 1955 from Nazareth College and a grant from Cornell University to study “Teaching the Disadvantaged.”
She taught at Corpus Christi, St. Augustine and St. Bridget, Rochester, and St. Aloysius, Auburn. She also served as principal at St. Bridget and vice principal for three years at Sacred Heart Cathedral School.
In 1973, Sister Tennity was hired as resident service coordinator at St. Ann’s Home in Rochester. After a brief illness in 1980, she served as van driver at the motherhouse infirmary in Pittsford. In 1997, she became assistant coordinator at the motherhouse. After retiring from this position in 2004, she worked in motherhouse service and was a prayer minister.
Sister Tennity is survived by her nieces, nephews, friends and sisters in the congregation.
Her funeral liturgy was celebrated at the motherhouse chapel May 17, 2018, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
