Sister Petrina Trybalski, 88, of the Sisters of St. Joseph died at the congregation’s motherhouse on March 22, 2005, at the age of 88.
Sister Petrine entered the congregation in 1935 from her home parish of St. Stanislaus in Rochester. She earned two bachelor’s degrees and a master’s degree in history, all from Nazareth College.
Her elementary-school teaching assignments included St. Patrick, Mt. Morris; St. Casimir, Elmira; Immaculate Conception, Ithaca; and, in Rochester, St. Stanislaus and Corpus Christi schools. She taught history from 1966-82 at St. Agnes High School, Rochester; Mt. Carmel, Auburn; and Nazareth Academy. For the next 10 years, she was coordinator of Nazareth’s Social Studies Resource Room.
Continuing her residency at the Nazareth convent, she volunteered at the Irondequoit Senior Center until she moved to the congregation’s infirmary in 2000.
Sister Trybalski is survived by her brother, Thaddeus; nieces Marie (William) Taillie; Susan (Albert) Shukis; Jean (Thomas) Montemarano; her nephew, James; and her sisters in the congregation.
Her funeral liturgy was celebrated at the motherhouse chapel on March 28, 2005, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Sisters of St. Joseph, 150 French Road, Rochester, NY 14618.
