Sister of Mercy Sheila Sentiff died Jan. 29, 2016. She was 76 years old.
Sister Sentiff entered the congregation on Sept. 8, 1957, and professed her final vows on Aug. 16, 1965.
After receiving her bachelor’s degree in education from Medaille College in Buffalo, she taught at St. Michael School, Newark; St. Patrick School, Elmira; Good Shepherd School, Henrietta; St. Monica and Holy Cross, Rochester; and St. Helen, Gates.
In 1974, she earned her Trinity Montessori certificate from Ithaca College and for the next few years taught at various Montessori schools. Following a prolonged personal renewal in Rome, Italy, Sister Sentiff volunteered as a teacher and office worker at Holy Cross in Rochester and St. Helen in Gates before taking a teaching assignment at Christian Family School in Mount Rainier, Md.
Upon her return to Rochester, she was a teacher and catechist at Trinity Montessori School.
Sister Sentiff is survived by her brother, Gary (JoAnne) Sentiff, of Phoenix, Ariz.; nieces and nephews; her Montessori friends; and her sisters in the congregation.
Her funeral liturgy was celebrated at Mercy Center in Brighton on Feb. 6, 2016, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
