Sister St. Joseph Creighton, SSJ, died April 27, 2005, at the Sisters of St. Joseph motherhouse. She was 95.
Following her entrance into the congregation from St. Patrick Parish in Elmira, Sister Creighton studied nursing and received her RN license from St. Joseph Hospital, Elmira. She later earned an anesthetist certificate and, from Marywood College, her bachelor’s degree.
Her career in nursing spanned close to half a century, serving as a nurse, anesthetist and supervisor at St. Joseph’s from 1935 to 1958 and as nursing supervisor at St. Ann’s Home in Rochester for six years. She then served at Good Samaritan Hospital in Selma, Ala., before returning as a nurse and in-service instructor at St. Joseph’s, where she later volunteered until her retirement in 1994.
Sister Creighton is survived by nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and her sisters in the congregation. Her funeral liturgy was celebrated on May 3, 2005, by her nephew, Franciscan Father Bernard Creighton, followed by burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
