Sister Teresa Clare Ehrmentraut, 104

Sister of St. Joseph Teresa Clare Ehrmentraut died on Jan. 25, 2011, at the age of 104.

In 1924 Ehrmentraut entered the congregation from her home parish of Ss. Peter and Paul, Rochester. She earned a bachelor of science degree in secretarial science from Nazareth College in 1942, and in 1955 completed a master’s degree in business administration at Boston University.

She taught at Rochester’s St. Monica School from 1926-32. For the next 22 years she was assigned to Elmira Catholic High School as a Latin and business teacher. In 1955 she became the secretary to the president at Nazareth College, a post she held for 25 years serving, under several presidents. From 1980-87 she was the archivist at Nazareth College, and for one year following that she helped in the congregational archives. When she retired in 1991, she served in prayer ministry.

She is survived by her nephew, Robert Karley; her grandnephew, Chris Karley; her grandniece Paula Ellsworth; her niece-in-law, Sarah Jenkins; and her sisters in the congregation. Her funeral liturgy was celebrated in the motherhouse chapel in Pittsford on Feb. 1, 2011, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
