Sister Teresa Laurene Creighton at 92

Sister Teresa Laurene Creighton of the Sisters of St. Joseph died Feb. 7, 2004, at the congregation’s motherhouse. She was 92.

Sister Creighton, a native of St. Patrick Parish, Elmira, entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1934. She later earned her bachelor’s degree from Nazareth College. Her first teachings assignments were at St. Monica and Nazareth Hall, both in Rochester. Her teaching career spanned more than 40 years and included service at St. Anthony, Elmira; Immaculate Conception, Ithaca; St. James, Waverly and St. Mary our Mother in Horseheads. She combined teaching and principalship from 1949 to 1959 at St. Anthony, Elmira, and St. Mary, Canandaigua. From 1980 until retirement in 1992, she served as a teacher aide in the Holy Family School System in Elmira.

Sister Creighton is survived by her sister, Sister St. Joseph, SSJ; her brother, Lawrence; nieces and nephews; and her sisters in the congregation. Her funeral liturgy was celebrated in the motherhouse chapel on Feb. 13, 2004. Burial was in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
