Sister Veronica Marie Freida, SSJ, died Aug. 26, 2005, at the Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse. She was 82.
She entered the congregation from Holy Redeemer Parish in Rochester in 1942 and served in a variety of ministries during the ensuing 58 years until suffering a stroke in 2000.
Sister Freida served as housekeeper at the motherhouse; manager of the altar bread department; assistant convent manager; and nursing aide and billing clerk at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Elmira. Upon her return to the motherhouse, she was a receptionist and caretaker of the chaplain’s quarters.
She is survived by her sister, Sister Bernadine Freida, SSJ; several cousins; and her sisters in the congregation. Her funeral liturgy was celebrated in the motherhouse chapel on Aug. 29, 2005, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
