Sister Virginia Taylor, RSM, 74

Sister of Mercy Virginia Taylor (formerly Sister Mary Paulus) died Sept. 25, 2012, at age 74.

Sister Taylor entered the congregation in from Le Roy and professed her perpetual vows in 1958. She served as an art teacher at Our Lady of Mercy High School, Brighton; campus minister at Ithaca College; and pastoral associate in the Northern Cayuga Cluster and later in Caledonia. Her most recent ministry was as director of St. Michael’s Woodshop in Rochester where she taught inner-city youth carpentry skills, artistic abilities, self-respect and integrity in a work situation.

She is survived by her brother, Edward Taylor; many nieces, nephews and friends; and her sisters in the congregation.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Sept. 29, 2012, at Mercy Center in Brighton. Interment was at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Sisters of Mercy, 1437 Blossom Road, Rochester, NY 14610.
