Sister of St. Joseph Walter Anne O’Malley died April 25, 2015. She was 90 years old.
She entered the congregation in 1943 from her home parish of St. Stephen in Geneva. She earned a BE from Nazareth College in 1950.
Sister O’Malley began her career in education in 1946. She taught at St. Francis Xavier and Sacred Heart Cathedral, Rochester, and St. Pius Tenth, Chili. She also served as the congregational director of junior religious from 1965-72.
In 1972, she was appointed principal for St. Alphonsus in Auburn. A year later, the school consolidated with Holy Trinity and was renamed St. Joseph School. Sister O’Malley remained principal until her retirement in 1998. She remained in Auburn, serving the people through prayer and connecting with her many friends. In 2003, she retired to the motherhouse in Pittsford, where she continued her ministry of prayer.
Sister O’Malley is survived by her nieces, nephews and her sisters in the congregation.
Her funeral liturgy was celebrated in the motherhouse chapel on May 1, 2015, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
