Chalk one up to St. Anthony of Padua, patron of lost items.
About $14,000 that had been reported missing after the Sisters of St. Joseph of Rochester’s Golf Tournament of Care at Irondequoit Country Club July 11 was found on Aug. 11 in a storage area on congregation’s property. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office had been investigating the disappearance of the money, which was earmarked for the sisters’ work in education, health, pastoral care and social services.
"The sisters are thankful to have this matter resolved and are appreciative of all the support from the community," according to a statement from the congregation.
Dawn Gruba, spokeswoman for the Sisters of St. Joseph of Rochester, said that the sisters always pray for St. Anthony’s intercession when they are looking for something, and sisters had prayed for his help in finding the missing money. According to the website of the St. Anthony Shrine in Cincinnati, Ohio, the saint became known for aiding in the recovery of items after he recovered a treasured psalter that had been taken.
