“So, you work with Annette, then, right?”
No, unfortunately I never had the pleasure of working with former El Mensajero Católico/Catholic Courier staff writer Annette Jiménez.
My name is Ketsia Rodr√≠guez, and on Jan. 7 I became the new staff writer for El Mensajero as well as the Catholic Courier’s central Monroe County region. Annette and I did get the opportunity to meet during a networking event at the end of last month. It was a pleasure meeting the woman so many have followed over the past 13 years. I hope I fit into the big shoes she’s left behind.
A little bit about myself:
I was born in the Bronx but raised in Pennsylvania. A first-generation Puerto Rican, I am bilingual, thanks to my parents.
I knew from a young age that I wanted to be a writer. In my free time I enjoy writing poetry and nonfiction stories. My goal is to one day publish my own book of poetry. I also enjoy traveling and recently began a travel blog on Instagram.
I moved to Rochester last year after graduating from SUNY Oswego, where I studied broadcasting/mass communications and creative writing.
Before joining El Mensajero and the Courier, I wrote for “Time to Educate” as an intern with the Democrat and Chronicle. I feel very fortunate to have been hired by El Mensajero and the Courier so I can continue my career in journalism.
Besides working, I also am enrolled as a student at RIT and am completing my master’s degree in professional studies.
I look forward to providing readers with newsworthy content!
