Catholic Charities of Chemung/Schuyler recently presented Penn Yan residents William Turner and Beatrice Christensen with lifetime achievement awards in honor of their extensive volunteer efforts.
The awards were based on 10,000-plus service hours to the community. Turner and Christensen are founding members of the Once Again Shoppe in Penn Yan, and they have remained active volunteers there since its inception in 1991. The facility, located at 100 E. Elm St., is a thrift shop where people can purchase high-quality donated clothing, toys and furnishings at a reasonable price, or at no cost when there is a need.
Also receiving recent recognition from Catholic Charities of Chemung/Schuyler were more than 100 men and women, ages 55 and up, who participated in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. These volunteers have contributed thousands of hours of service to local nonprofit agencies in both Schuyler and Yates counties.
