Speaker to discuss theology of the body

Christopher West, who specializes in Pope John Paul II’s theology of the body, will speak on “God, Sex and the Meaning of Life,” at St. Matthew Church, 6591 Richmond Mills Road, Livonia, on Friday, May 12, from 7-9:30 p.m.

West has offered graduate and undergraduate courses at St John Vianney Seminary in Denver, Colo., the John Paul II Institute in Melbourne, Australia, and Creighton University’s Institute for Priestly Formation in Omaha, Neb. He’s appeared on national radio programs, and discussed the Catholic faith on such programs as “Scarborough Country,” “Fox and Friends,” and “At Large with Geraldo Rivera.” West’s books include Good News about Sex & Marriage, Theology of the Body Explained and Theology of the Body for Beginners

West focuses on making the late pope’s theology about human sexuality — and the spiritual power it contains — understandable to everyone. Among the questions he’ll explore during his talk are: Why are we created male and female? Where do we come from and why? And what is the meaning of life, and how do we experience it?

The seminar is free, but seating is limited. To reserve a seat, e-mail Christina VanLieshout at DJV724@juno.com, or call 585/346-3479. Donations will be accepted, with proceeds going to Catholic Charities of Livingston County.
