Sports figures to speak at Auburn parish

Sacred Heart Parish in Auburn is sponsoring a sports-themed program Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. in the parish hall, 90 Melrose Road.

Sacred Heart Sports Night will feature a roast-beef dinner and talks by prominent sports figures Greg Robinson and Mark and David Bavaro. Robinson has been head football coach at Syracuse University since 2005. Mark Bavaro played for the Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles NFL teams and was a member of the New York Giants when the team earned Super Bowl titles in 1987 and 1991. His brother, David, played for the Phoenix Cardinals, the Minnesota Vikings and the New England Patriots.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under, and the ticket cost includes dinner and beverages. Tickets may be purchased at the Sacred Heart parish office, 90 Melrose Road; the Auburn Knights of Columbus Council 207 headquarters at 47 Market St.; or Snappers Sports Tavern, 107 N. Division St.

The parish used to routinely sponsor Sacred Heart Sports Night several decades ago, and the event is being resurrected this year in honor of the parish’s 50th anniversary, said Maxine Alberici, chairwoman of the parish’s anniversary committee.
