Spring fringe

By Tamara Tirado/staff photographer

I took this picture on the front lawn of St. Monica Church in the city of Rochester. I was covering their annual Fátima procession and I noticed these flowers as I was entering the church. I had never seen a ‘spiky’ tulip before, so I photographed it. I looked it up online and found out it is really referred to as a ‘fringe’ tulip, and that they are actually quite common – and beautiful!
