Sr. Ruth Magin; taught business for 48 years

Sister of St. Joseph Ruth Magin, formerly known as Sister John Mary, died at the congregation's motherhouse on Sept. 14, 2004. She was 89.

After joining the order from her home parish of Holy Apostles in 1933, Sister Ruth earned a bachelor's degree in secretarial sciences from Nazareth College and a master's degree in commerce from the State University of New York at Albany.

She taught for one year at Blessed Sacrament School, and then embarked on a 48-year career as a business teacher at Nazareth Academy. She later worked in the academy convent for 14 years, retiring to the congregation's infirmary in 2000.

Sister Ruth is survived by several nieces and nephews and her sisters in the congregation. Her funeral liturgy was celebrated in the motherhouse chapel on Sept. 17 followed by burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
