On Saturday, May 14, the Landmark Society of Western New York will conduct free tours, from 2 to 4 p.m., of both Ss. Peter and Paul Church, 720 W. Main St., Rochester, and West Avenue United Methodist Church, located just down the street at “The Point,” where West Main splits into Chili and West avenues.
Designed by the firm of Gorden and Madden, Ss. Peter and Paul was modeled after several Italian churches in the Lombard-Romanesque style. Dedicated in 1912, the church has an ornate, barrel-vaulted ceiling and one of the area’s best collections of sacred art.
West Avenue United Methodist Church, begun in 1898 and completed in 1906, is an example of Romanesque Revival architecture.
