St. Ann’s Community launches new volunteer program

St. Ann’s Community in Rochester is kicking off the holiday season with a new volunteer initiative called the “Sage Volunteer Program.”

“Our elders are in need of continued and reliable companionship. They need a friendly face they can talk to, especially during the holidays” Maureen Murphy, volunteer services manager at St. Ann’s Community, said in a Dec. 1 press release introducing the program.

Through the Sage Volunteer Program, volunteers will help elders with activities and parties and spend one-on-one time with them during visits.

In addition to this opportunity, volunteers also can assist St. Ann’s pastoral care team with weekly distribution of Communion and transporting elders to Mass. Beginning in 2022, volunteers also can become part of St. Ann’s Readers and engage in reading with the elders.

All volunteers must be at least 16 years old and fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Opportunities are available at both St. Ann’s Home in Irondequoit and St. Ann’s Care Center at Cherry Ridge in Webster. For more information, contact Murphy at mmurphy@mystanns.com or 585-697-6523.
