Sister of St. Joseph Mary Louise Mitchell was recently named director of pastoral care at St. Ann’s Community in Rochester, succeeding Father Peter Bayer, who retired in June after 25 years of service at St. Ann’s.
Sister Mitchell has 30 years of experience in the field of nursing and holds a master’s degree in nursing from Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., as well as doctorate and post-doctorate degrees in nursing from the University of Rochester. She has served as a staff nurse, nursing instructor and vice president of nursing education at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Elmira and has taught in the nursing programs at both St. John Fisher College and Nazareth College, where she helped develop a master’s program for gerontological nurse practitioners. She also was an advanced practice nurse in private practice at the Sisters of St. Joseph’s Spirituality Center in Rochester.
Sister Mitchell served as congregation president of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Rochester from 2007-15 and currently serves on the board of directors of Arnot Health in Elmira. She previously has served on the boards of St. Ann’s Community, Nazareth College and Aquinas Institute and is a former member of the Sisters of St. Joseph’s International Global Coordinating Group.
