St. Boniface statue returns home

In 1957 the soaring, Gothic Revival style St. Boniface Church, which had stood on Gregory Street in Rochester since 1886, was ravaged by fire. A statue of St. Boniface that stood in an alcove above the church’s front entrance survived the fire but eventually fell out of the hands of the parish. The statue was found at an estate sale in 2013 and purchased by the Trading Post in Avon, Livingston County, which subsequently donated it back to the church. It returned to Gregory Street June 3.
