Candice Lucas is the new executive director for St. Joseph’s Neighborhood Center, which provides comprehensive health and human services to uninsured and low-income families in the Rochester area, according to information from center officials.
Outgoing director Sister of St. Joseph Christine Wagner will continue on as special adviser, and she will focus on development, community projects and community education.
Lucas was formerly the director of community health services and the cancer services program at the University of Rochester’s Center for Community Health. She oversaw community-based outreach programs focused on physical activity and nutrition; provided screenings for prevention and early detection of breast, cervical and colorectal cancers; and offered low-income workers career development in health care.
She also is chairwoman for the African-American Health Coalition and serves on several boards of nonprofit organizations, including the local chapter of the American Cancer Society and the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester.
