St. Joseph’s Hospital in Elmira plans to relocate its outpatient physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and hand therapy departments. By the end of 2006 these services will move to the site of the former Hoss Steak & Sea House Restaurant, 905 E. Church St. Also included in the move will be a soon-to-be-developed wellness program for the community.
The project’s cost will be approximately $1 million. These moves are being made to accommodate the growth and expansion of St. Joseph’s outpatient services.
Sister Marie Castagnaro, SSJ, president/CEO of St. Joseph’s, explained that the current location of outpatient physical medicine rehabilitation therapies, established at the hospital in 1972, restricts growth options as needs continue to increase. During 2005, the hospital’s physical rehabilitation team accounted for 28,000 outpatient visits involving the relocating departments.
