Students at St. Kateri School in Irondequoit showed support for former student Avrie Sinesiou by shooting a music video and holding a dress-down day May 14. Sinesiou, who attended St. Kateri for preschool and kindergarten, was first diagnosed with leukemia when she was 4 years old. Now 7, her cancer has returned.
For the dress-down day, students donated money to the Sinesiou family in order to wear clothing that was orange, the color to signify leukemia awareness.
The music video, which will be posted on the school’s website, featured Marcy Sullivan singing “Brave” by Sara Bareilles while walking through the school’s hallways. It also included dancing by the school’s students. Sullivan, who has two children attending St. Kateri, has been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer and hoped that creating the video would show Sinesiou the school’s support.
“With faith you can be very brave, and you can get through anything with God,” she said.
